2 - 25 - 95 Lewis, 26 yrs. of age, Puerto Rican, said he has never been photographed by a woman in the nude. Has a female roommate who is 32 yrs. of age and the both sleep in the same bed.
He's very religious, had lots of pictures of Christ on his walls and a small alter with a Bible on it in the living room where he prays and reads about religions. Spiritual, burning intense with New Age music playing. Was interested in erotic photos, none sexual, unless he was to be photographed with a woman. Very polite, a nice-looking guy. 2- 25 - 95 Went to Lewis S. who lives on East 51st St. in the evening at 8:00 pm. I have photographed him before. Thought he looked better than before and has cut his long hair, making him look more mature. Currently, has a girlfriend of 3 yrs. who lives in London. I did some of my "Me and Men" photos with him, putting a part of myself in the photograph with him. A very polite, respectful, shy-like guy, sometimes very reserved. I am sure I will photograph him again, when he contacts me, since he lives nearby.

3 - 4 - 95 Photographed Bob again, who lives on West 80th St. He said he was watching porn, before my arrival and I mentioned that if he wanted to watch it, while I photographed him that it was cool with me and he did. He wanted all sexual photographs of himself this time, which meant stronger photos, including erections. He wore a cock ring, so he would be able to keep an erection longer and ejaculated that reached across the room, which he mentioned was his
speciality to do. Nice guy, older guy, graying at the temples, nice-looking.

2 - 17 - 95 - Went to photograph Keith at his room in the Charter Club on West 45th St., divorced, lives with a girlfriend and never been photographed by a female in the nude, so wanted to do. In his 40's, owns a computer company and wanted to document the way he looks now and then wants to do another shoot, when he loses some weight. Works out at The Vertical Club, three times a week. Lives in NYC half the week and in Oregon the other half. He masturbated towards the end of the shoot. Said he found the photo shoot to be an interesting experience and complimented me on photographing male nudes. He requested a photo shoot of him and his girl-
friend together, her in sexy lingerie, the next times he comes to the city. He asked me "what does your husband think about you photographing male nudes?". I replied, he's known about my lifetime passion of photographing male nudes, from the time we first met and always has been supportive and never threatened by it, nor does he ask me questions, when I return home from a shoot. He trusts me and knows that their is a boundary that I would never, never cross. He
didn't say anything after my reply. Said the photo shoot was all new to him and wanted suggestions of what to do. He was extremely polite, a bit uninteresting for me, since he never had any input into the photos that he wanted. A very vanilla photo shoot, but sweet.

12 -11 - 94 Bob, 40 yrs. of age, single and works as a bartender. Contacted me and said he wanted photos of himself, before he started to workout. He had his weights around in his apartment and wanted photos with them. Then wanted photos of a more sexual nature with an erection and masturbating. The entire photo shoot he was polite and mentioned that this was all new to him. I didn't spend much time doing his photo shoot, since he ejaculated fairly quickly and I packed up my camera equipment and ended the shoot, while classical music played, along with his golf clubs in the room.

1 - 7 - 95 James, 34 yrs. of age, black guy, which I don't photograph too often and want to, single and lived downtown in a housing project. It seemed that one time he was down and out, but now is trying to get himself together. Told me he received some sort of check from the government. He was not interested in sexual photos of himself and did not even touch himself, which was nice to do subtle, erotic photos. Said he was nervous in the beginning of the shoot and then felt comfortable doing. Mentioned to me that it is not everyday that an attractive woman would be photographing him. Wanted to spend the rest of the afternoon reflecting about it, since the
experience was enjoyable on many levels. He started telling me that he had not had a girlfriend in more than a year and the last one was a prostitute and said he had to leave her.

1 - 14 - 95 Julian, white, 27 yrs. of age, single and lived with his father. He had gotten a hotel room to do the shoot in on West 27th St, The Senton Hotel. He had four tattoos on him, was slim and said that he didn't smoke or drink and always wanted to do nude modeling. My impression of him was that he could have been heavier and needed to feel more comfortable in front of the
camera. He did get an erection, but didn't ejaculate. Mentioned that he was straight and that he sees a number of women, but doesn't sleep with all of them and always uses a condom. Told me that there was a lot of unprotected sex going on. Is interested in doing pornographic videos and porn magazine modeling. Had a very Italian-look and was completely shaven in the pubic area.

1 - 28 - 95 Sharin, 25 yrs. of age and came from Egypt, 3 yrs. ago. Found him to be good-looking
and wanted the nude photos for his modeling purposes. His public area was shaven. Couldn't get an erection in the beginning of the shot, but did later on and asked me when he did "how's this?" He had a great smile, very pleasant and wanted me to select the best photos of him. Said he didn't have a current girlfriend but previously had a Jewish girlfriend, but said she was too winy for him. He moved out of his last apartment because the female landlady, who was divorced, kept sexually coming on to him.

2 - 17 - 95 Tad, 24 yrs. of age, plays the drums in a band. Told me he was submissive and wanted his wrists and ankles tied to the framework of his futon. He wanted to keep an erection for the entire shoot, but couldn't. Told me the last time he had sex with a woman was a year ago.
He was polite, but a bit strange. Said the photo shoot was better than what he thought it would be. Said he masturbated the nite before the shoot, while thinking about the shoot the next day.. He said he wanted to do the shoot for the experience of being photographed by a female. This was his first time to have this type of experience, thought it was great.

11 - 25 - 94 Don, single, 55 yrs. of age, retired after working at JFK Airport for 35 yrs. Said he was a former alcoholic and goes to AA meetings. Always wanted to do a nude photo shoot by a female photographer and take it to the limit, with ejaculation. He, also likes to get nude massages by a female who charges him $70/hr, sees a chiropractor and other women for various situations. He mentioned to me that he had two opportunities to get married, but didn't work out, since both parties used each other, even though he said, "I would have treated her well". He likes to masturbate and likes blow-jobs, isn't into penetration. Since he has a large belly, him being on top, wouldn't look good.

11 - 28 - 94 Tonite went to photograph Bob J, 31, single and lives in the West Village. Told me to take a cab to and from my place to do the shoot in his loft-like, luxury building. Said he never had a female photograph him in the nude, so it interested him. He wanted all sexual photographs of himself, including erections. He began masturbating immediately, very respectful of me. Really got into it, while I began taking photos of him. Said the entire experience was different and would definitely contact me again to do photos and I would definitely want him to, since the photographs of him were strong photos. Like to photograph guys who are into the entire experience.

12 - 2 - 94 Marc, 28, single, had very long-blond, beautiful, straight, silky hair, which went down to his waist. He was hip and cute. I met him in front of his building where he worked, a record company on the Westside, in the 50's. I photographed him in an empty office and he was very polite and apologized for being late. He said he never had a female photograph him in the nude and needed coaching from me. Mentioned to me that he was fat, which he didn't have an extra pound of him, it was his vanity. I wrapped his long-hair around his head and face, making for surreal-like photos, which I liked. I kept feeling his nervousness, he was youngish, but of age, just never did before. He didn't want any sexual photos, but erotic, subtle, beautiful photos, but did touch himself, towards the end of shoot. Said he was very comfortable doing the shoot with me and kept asking me other questions about other men that I have photographed and what they do. I mentioned, each shoot is different, just like all of us are different.

11 - 4 - 94 Eric, 24 yrs. of age, Puerto Rican, just had gotten out of the AirForce, was in London for 2 yrs. Tall, dark and good-looking with a nice size penis. I did classic photos of him, all the time while he kept touching his penis to make it erect and wanted photos of himself ejaculating, which he did. He then asked me questions about the male modeling business, since he said when he was in South Beach, Fl, a male photographer wanted to do photos of him for a gay magazine, but said that wasn't his thing. Said he has a sometimes girlfriend, very polite, nice guy. He arrived on time for me to do his nude photos up on my friend's rooftop and said wants to contact me to do again.

11 - 12 -94 Steve, 27 yrs. of age, Puerto Rican, lived in Co-op City, Bronx and picked me up in a jazzed up white Mustang, when I got off the subway stop, near his place. Was an awkward photo shoot, since he was very stiff, even though he mentioned to me that he never had done before, so wanted to do. He had no problem with an erection, which he got immediately, ejaculated and then it was the end of the photo shoot. Photos were dull, but maybe next time they will be better, since he said he would do again.

11 - 19 - 94 Iain, 43 yrs. of age, from London, living in Bronxville, NY for the past 14 yrs. He picked me up at his train station and went to a nice home that he lives in. He was a bit heavy, out of shape. We entered his unlocked home and quickly answered his ringing phone, talking about liquidating a large sum of money. He offered me white wine and some cheese. Told me his wanted the nude photos of himself for his mistress of 3 yrs. He is a submissive and said that she canes him and he has met his mistresses' boyfriend. Said he never had sex with her, but would like to, but that wasn't the relationship. He eventually masturbated while I took the photos and ejaculated. Found him to be polite and intelligent. He had his pubic hair all removed by electrolysis, since he found being without hair convenient. 10 - 15 -94 Robert E, single 36 yrs. of age and a character actor in NYC. Very polite, nice and wasn't' interested in any sexual photos of himself or erections. But, he did touch his penis every now and then, to make it bigger. I took notice of a cowboy hat that was in his apartment and had him wear it and did some photos of myself with him, too. He liked it when I touched the rim of the cowboy hat, giving it a sense of suggestiveness and eroticism. He was very much into the subtle, erotic sense of the shoots and found it different and interesting to do.

10 - 22 - 94 Perry, 34, cute, said to me that he was heterosexual and an aspiring artist/painter, who also had a day job. I went to his do his photo shoot in the space that he rent where he did his paintings, which were all around and on the walls. He called his paintings landscapes, but to me looked like a bunch of colors on the canvas. He told me that he liked women and considered himself to be very sexual, so he wanted to see what it was like to be photographed by a female.
He wanted all his photos to be sexual, touching, masturbating photos. He had no idea what he wanted to do or would do, but to take it as it went. He enjoyed the shoot, thought it was a hot shoot and ejaculated at the end of it. Told me that he didn't have sex last nite, since he wanted to save his orgasm for the shoot.

6 - 16 - 94 Josh, 30's lawyer. He was a huge-size guy, with lots of hair all over his body, including a skin rash. I didn't find him interesting to photograph. Very dull and didn't have any input into the shoot, no suggestions, nor know how he wanted to be photographed. I usually like an exchange going on, between me and my subject. This was a short shoot, since he seemed not interested in doing at all, so I wrapped it up, quickly.

8 - 19 - 94 Patrick, 30, gay, pleasant-looking, slim and wanted the nude photos of himself to put together a photo album. He had other photographer's to capture him on film and wanted me to do the same. His photo shoot was very subtle, not into any strong photos that would include erections, wasn't into anything sexual or touching himself, which was nice to do.

8 -24 - 94 Richard, 27, Puerto Rican background and lived at home on 103rd. St., so I photographed him up on a friend's rooftop, in midtown. He was slim and had very long black-shiny hair that fell in his face. He told me he has aspirations of being a model and always wanted to do a nude shoot with a female photographer. His pubic hair was shaven and had a scar near his penis, do to some kind of surgery that he needed. During the shoot, the entire time, his penis was dripping. He was very cooperative and said he looked forward to doing another shoot. I liked the photos of him that included him in his white-cotton underwear with his penis out.

5-7-94 I'm in Bergenfield, NJ to photograph a black guy, named Monte who is single and 28 yrs. of age. He wanted photos of himself for promotion as a male stripper. Educated and polite, he decided that in addition to the promotional photos that he wanted to do nudes with an erection.
He said I was the 2nd woman to have masturbated in front of. The first was his girlfriend of 8 yrs. who lives with him. He asked if I would talk suggestively to him, which I did a little bit and do some make-believe sexual things. He did a lot of sexual things to himself, including using a dildo, up his butt, which made him ejaculate. He lived in a small one-room, SRO residence, only a single bed, a chair and a dresser in the room, with one window. He presented me with a gift of a picture frame and told me that I had a flair to be an actress. He spoke to me about many old time actresses that he admired.

6-4-94 Mark M, 31 yrs. of age, waspy, lived on Central Park South and said that he did not have a girlfriend. Always wanted to have nude photos of himself, especially of him masturbating. He had champagne for the both of us. He said he couldn't ejaculate because of a condition called retarded ejaculation. I thought this was something that he had made up, since I have never heard of the condition. He mentioned that he went to a few swinger's clubs in the city, including

4-16-94 Steve lived in Jersey City in a condo. He's single and working as a manager for AT&T, extremely polite, a bit submissive. He told me that he had never been photographed by a woman and enjoyed the entire photo shoot and the reason to do the shoot. Nice guy.

4-22-94 Tim lived in a loft in Tribeca, age 41, good-looking, super-cut body, very cultured. He said he wrote and directed movies and mentioned some names to me, which I was unfamiliar with. He wanted to do the photo shoot, so he would be able to give photos of himself to his girlfriend who lived in Los Angeles. An actress, I asked, no a former actress. He was very much into photography and had two original Berenice Abbott photos on his wall. I enjoyed photographing him, having conversation with him and upon entering his loft, to me it seemed just like a scene from a movie. His penis, at some times, got an erection and at times it subsided.
He seemed pleased with the shoot and I was pleased to have photographed him.

4-30-94 Robert lived at 8th Ave. & 17th St, about 30 yrs. of age, a chef and engaged to be married to a dancer, who was away in Germany for a month. When I verified today's photo shoot, her voice was on the answering machine. When I first got to his place, he immediately asked me, if I would like some wine and starting telling me why he wanted to do a nude shoot.
He saw it as liberating for himself and didn't view the male nude body as beautiful as a woman's.
He said he was a bit shy. But, once I started photographing him, he was quick to be sexual with himself. He wanted to get an erection immediately and put a cock ring on and tied a piece of leather around his penis, even putting a candle up his butt, even lit it, masturbated and ejaculated. And I thought in my mind, this guy is shy? Yeah, right! He said he was going to show the photos to his girlfriend and even tell her that a female photographed did the photos.

1/08/94 - Went to Annie Sprinkle's Salon social, where a few female-t0-male transsexuals were also invited. This is the first time that I have ever seen female-to-male transsexuals and Martin and Marty came to show the ladies their new penis that were made from the bodies skin into a penis. For me, at first their new penis' looked a bit strange, but they both mentioned that they had more operations to do, to fine tune them and have an implant made. The size of the penis is what the implant will be. They are looking forward to trying it out. A lot of the ladies that were there were feeling it. I photographed their new penis' and were happy about all the attention.

3/09/94 - Did an ad in the back of the New York Press and me photographing male nudes and got a lot of phone calls. Lots of the men who are calling are asking sexual things and glad they are, since my photography has nothing to do with what they are asking. But, it is NYC and suggested that they call someone else for what they are seeking. I went to photograph Pat R., on West 14th St., in his single-room, have photographed him before and his first photo shoot resulted in one of my favorite photos. He's an older, gray-haired man, which a plopped a hat on his hat, reclined him sideways on this bed and did the photo in available light and was published in a book that Massachusetts Institute of Technology published. He always likes the attention that I give him and always very polite at all times.

3/13/94 - Went back to photograph Pat R. who I photographed 15 yrs. ago. This time I did some photos of me with him in his mirror. Like the photos very much and found it interesting, putting myself in the photos with the naked guy. He told me I looked good and how wonderful it was for him. It's interesting that when I was doing my "Naked Men" series back in 1976, 78, 79, 80's that sex wasn't such a taboo matter as it is now. My male nude photos are now more sexual and so is the talk that takes place. Perhaps men are looking for a different way to have a sexual experience with sexual contact. Back then people were having more sex with others, before the AIDS crisis, so it wasn't as sexual when I photographed them. I got a phone call from a young guy, named Michael, a student, age 26, who said he was inquiring about my ad. He mentioned that he felt guilty talking to me with an erection and guilty for not telling his girlfriend he desire to have me photograph him nude.

3/26/94 - Jim, 40 yrs. of age, married 8 yrs, said that there is no sex in his marriage and always fantasized about a female photographing him in the nude. He mentioned that he wasn't interested in his wife sexually. She'd always put a towel under him, when she gave him a blow-job, which weren't many. Very polite, nice guy. He played with himself the entire time, I was photographing him for more than two hours. She Shoots Men

Since 1976, as a fine-art photographer, my specialization is exploring different aspects of erotica, sexuality and gender. I am interested in photographing subject matter that offers many challenges, obstacles and difficulties dealing with the pathology of our times with references to sociology. All series are photographed for two years or more and all subsequent series evolve from the previous one.
Photographing environmental "Naked Men" in 1976 led to documenting "Male Burlesk" in 1981 which led to documenting NYC's Times Square's "Live Sex Shows" in the mid-80's. Photographing performers from the adult x-rated movie industry in 1985 for my "Porn Stars" series enabled me to explore the male gender embracing their female persona thru the 1990's for my transsexual series. This series resulted in a New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship in 1987, along with an Artist Grant from Artist Space, NYC in 1989. Edition Stemmle published my solo monograph, "Male-to-Female (La Cage Aux Folles)" in 1995, featuring nudes of male-to-female transsexuals and triptychs of drag queens and transvestites.
Photographing the female gender embracing their male persona in the late 1990's of female-to-male transsexuals, male impersonators, drag kings and androgyny challenges the social construction of gender. My lifetime mission and on-going series of photographing male nudes, "She Shoots Men" is motivated by my desire to transform the imbalance that still exists with the pervasiveness of the double-standard in nude photography.

In 1976, I began photographing male nudes in their home environments or outdoors in various locations. Using a 35mm camera and b/w film with a 50mm lens was my choice of equipment. Keeping it simple, I preferred available light or using a light when necessary. Even though I can recall each photo shoot for every subject that I have photographed, I decided to keep a journal for each of my male nude subjects, beginning on October 1, 1993.

10/01/93 - I am in the downtown, shabby hotel on West 27th St. with Benjamin who was being a pain in the butt and coming on to me, but I ignored his comments, while photographing him. This was bothersome to me, since I spoke to him on the phone, prior to the shoot that it is strictly me, photographing him and nothing else. He behaved himself while I finished the shoot. He contacted me again and said that he wanted to be photographed with a dominatrix or with a transsexual. I said that I would do the shoot, but that he had to find the person to be photographed with.

10/30/93 - Just came back from photographing Tom, a grad student at Columbia University. He asked if he could get an erection, which I said was fine, but he had to do by himself. I photographed myself with him, my hand near his penis, which started a series, within this series, called "Me and Men". He eventually ejaculated. While packing up my camera equipment, he asked if I would photograph him again, when he contacts me.

11/06/93 - Went to photograph John, age 44 who lives on Carmine St. in the West Village, NYC.
He wanted references on me and wanted to know that I was a competent photographer to do his nude photos. He was a gentlemen and respected my professionalism. He asked me to take photos of his soft penis and his erection, but couldn't get his penis fully erect. He mentioned that while he was masturbating, he was intellectualizing the whole experience and enjoyed it, since he was never photographed by a female before. Being a nudist and frequenting a nudist camp in Pennsylvania, he mentioned he liked being nude in front of people, but felt that his body language was always stiff and it was stiff while I was photographing him. He said that he saved my telephone message on his answering machine and played it back to me, which he said revealed a personality with feelings. A graduate of City College with studies in match and psychology, I found him analyzing my approach when I called him, which he found interesting.
Took me for coffee and then walked me to the Christopher St. subway station for my train, he told me I was gorgeous. Nice compliment, thank you.
